On September 26, 2024, the VR-SIM Carers research team had the opportunity to present a poster during Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Science’s Research Day. The exciting event started with a presentation from Dr. Nicole Kaniki, a research methodologist with expertise in equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). Her insights resonated deeply with us, as our virtual reality prototype is built around a diverse group of individuals, including caregivers and clinicians, ensuring our program is beneficial and meets the needs of caregivers from all walks of life.

Following Dr. Kaniki's talk, we dove into the energetic “Minute Madness” pitch session. Andrei Torres, our technology superstar, delivered an impressive one-minute overview of our project, highlighting how we incorporate end-user feedback to create a lifelike, immersive environment for dementia caregivers to practice real-life scenarios.

The day concluded with all the presenters (including many of our lovely HQPs) showcasing their posters. This was an opportunity to learn from other presenters and educate others on the current state of our project. Overall, this was a successful day, and we hope to have many other future opportunities to share our findings and updates about our project!
